The Lesson

flower-3a.jpg

In a lesson we work using simple physical actions like lying down, sitting, standing, walking or doing some other activity that you frequently do, or something else that you would like to examine further. We could for example look at the way you sit at a desk or computer, read a book, write, chop vegetables, drink coffee, play an instrument, or sing, speak or dance. Anyone can benefit from this gentle, subtle, unique approach which can improve our physical and emotional balance and health.

If we stop ‘doing’ so much in particular, stop making undue tension with our necks, the head will be free, the pressure will then be taken off the spine, and the back will start to lengthen and widen and offer support for the body. The legs will be free to run and dance and move about, which is what they were meant to do. This in turn creates space inside us for all those organs and bodily processes which are required to keep us healthy to be free to work, so improving our general health and wellbeing.

The Alexander Technique helps you to respond in the best possible manner to whatever life may put your way.

The Alexander Technique is usually taught as an individual hands-on lesson. Introductory group lessons can also be arranged, and in some cases individual and group lessons on zoom.

A lesson is usually around 45 mins.

"If you are quiet and really stop - as none of us ever do - then you are doing nothing. In particular, you're not doing the wrong thing, so that the right thing does itself. So the head, neck, back is secondary - it comes out of the stopping. You don't need to know it, but it's useful to understand it.

The practice is in the stopping. So once you stop then you may begin to do less with your neck muscles and then the head may proceed forward and up of itself."
